From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1973: Fifty Years Ago: Zahur’s house raided

LAHORE: The residence of a prominent Opposition leader, Chaudhri Zahur Elahi, MNA … was raided by a contingent of Gujrat Police at 4-30 this morning [June 10]. Disclosing this, Chaudhri Zahur Elahi told newsmen that the Gujrat Police, who was looking for the former’s nephew, Chaudhri Tajammul Hussain, was assisted by the Lahore Police, including Women Constables. The raid lasted for about an hour, he added.

He said the raiding Police party had stated that it wanted to arrest Chaudhri Tajammul Hussain for digging earth from village Common (Shamilat-i-deh) of which he happens to be a joint owner. Chaudhri Zahur Elahi said his nephew lives in Gujrat and is a heart patient. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by our Staff Correspondent from Quetta,] Mir Gul Khan Naseer, Deputy leader of the NAP-JUI Parliamentary Party in the Balochistan Assembly and a former Provincial Information Minister, was arrested in Quetta in the early hours of this morning [June 10]. This is the first arrest of an ex-Baluchistan Minister after the dismissal of the NAP-JUI Government in this Province. An official source said that a special agency is conducting the investigations.
