Surgeon faces case

TOBA TEK SINGH: The Ghulam Muhammadabad police in Faisalabad have registered a case against Dr Awais, a surgeon at the Independent Medical University City Hospital, for conducting incorrect operations on two women with the same name, resulting in the amputation of a patient’s leg instead of her gallbladder, and the removal of another patient’s gallbladder instead of her leg.

The complainant, Deputy District Health Officer Dr Muhammad Azeem Arshad, got an FIR registered under sections 324, 419 and 420 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Dr Arshad conducted an inspection of the hospital where the surgeries took place and found both patients in a critical condition. It was also reported that the accused doctor was currently at large, and due to various deficiencies discovered in the operation theatre, it has been sealed.
