Mr Ahmad, a fitness buff in his mid-sixties, is a regular runner who jogs around 16 kilometres daily. All his six children are also sports lovers.
Last year, Mr Ahmad had joined the first ever Standard Chartered Lahore Marathon and finished 18th among local runners — not a mean achievement for a man who is already a grandfather.
Meanwhile, Ashu Kassim — an Ethiopian Muslim woman — who is also here to take part in the show says: “I am delighted to attend Lahore Marathon. It is a great honour to represent my country in this great gala.”
Many Muslim women from countries like Morocco and India would be participating in the marathon.
Similarly, two non-resident Pakistanis would make a week-end air dash to Lahore for participating in the Lahore Marathon. On learning that all income of the race would go to the earthquake relief fund, Saqib Khan and Shabah Siddiqui decided to come to Lahore for a weekend and participate in the race. Both have also launched a campaign to raise 2,600 pound sterling in the UK.
