SARGODHA, Jan 23: Special Adviser to Chief Minister Saba Sadiq suspended the Darul Aman (second shift) head and transferred other staff, including superintendent Mrs Jameela Nassar Javed, for showing negligence which resulted in escaping of Miss Maria.

The adviser also directed to shift the Darul Aman in the newly-constructed building within a fortnight. Deployment of police force to ensure safety and security of Darul Aman inmates was also directed.

She said the chief minister had initiated a project to set up Darul Aman for women in each district with an estimated cost of Rs7.4 million.

Saba Sadiq said that she had also constituted a new management committee headed by the wife of DCO. She said the SP (investigation) would submit the Maria case report within a fortnight.

Meanwhile, Miss Maria’s mother Jafri Begum, brother Abdul Jabbar and sisters in their protest alleged that Maria was playing in the hands of wrong people. Jafri Begum, carrying Quran on her head, took oath that allegations of Maria were baseless.

Maria, a teenager, who took refuge in Darul Aman some two weeks back, had alleged that her mother, brother and sisters forced her to adopt prostitution. On her refusal, she alleged that she was subjected to torture.

Police had registered a case against family members for forcing her to live as prostitute. However, the investigation is still under way.
