LAHORE, Jan 20: The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) on Friday launched its first “video conference studio” in the city to provide state-of-the-art telecommunication facilities to public and private sectors. NTC chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Farooq, while inaugurating the studio, said this pilot project was directly related to prime objective of IT action plan which envisaged the concept of e-governance and considered as one of the most significant initiatives ever taken in Pakistan.
He said this modern facility would fully ensure fast, reliable, secure and real time access between the top federal and provincial government functionaries and private sector organizations for better and closer communication without physical displacement.
Later, he said one video conference studio would be set up at Karachi and Islamabad soon. He hoped that the network would be expanded to other big cities of the country.
He said portable facility of video conference would also be provided on demand.
NTC member Khalid Javed, director Waqar Ahmad and other senior officers of NTC headquarters were also present on the occasion.
Admiral Farooq said the NTC believed in delivering an efficient service to subscribers.
He said the studio was equipped with resident call management, trouble shooting, thus delivering well managed service.
He said the end-user and technical assistance was also available with the NTC.
About the functioning of the video conference, he said it required two-way transmission of digital voice and video signals over same type of communication network with compatible sending, receiving and display equipment at each end.
He said a bandwidth of 384 kbps at 30 frames per second yields was considered business-quality video-conferencing.
The chairman said the use of live, television-quality video conferencing help explore many new avenues for communication among the parties geographically dispersed.
He said due to limited travel budgets and pressing need to get more done in less time, video conferencing benefit the parties for face to face meetings arranged on short notice at affordable tariff.—APP
