KOHAT, Jan 19: Despite several ‘warnings’ by the district nazim and elders of the area to Pesco officials, long spells of load-shedding in the city continue. Only a day after district nazim Seth Gohar Saifullah had called the executive engineer of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) and directed him to stop load-shedding and put an end to over billing, power remained suspended for eight hours in City-2 section on Thursday.

Executive Engineer Arbab Khan Afridi was told that in case law and order situation arose as a result of load-shedding, then Pesco staff would be held responsible for the consequences.

The district nazim had called the meeting after nazims of various union councils informed him that consumers in their areas were expressing resentment over continuing load-shedding.

In Ustarzai and Gumbat areas, people blocked roads after a 10-hour spell of power shutdown and approached nazims to get power restored.

Other affected areas are union council urban-1, 2 and 4 where power supply remains suspended in mornings and evenings for the last two months.

The engineer informed the district nazim that he was helpless as he had been only implementing the schedule issued by higher authorities.
