FORT WORTH (Texas), Jan 18: American Airlines parent company AMR said on Wednesday its fourth-quarter loss widened to $604 million, as results were hit by high fuel costs and one-time charges.

The largest US carrier said the quarterly results excluding special items showed improvement from a year ago despite having to pay an additional $433 million for fuel.

The quarterly loss widened from a gap of $387 million in the same period a year ago, as the company paid hefty charges for aircraft and facilities as well as debt restructuring under its reorganization.

Excluding these one-time items, the loss would be $473 million, or $2.39 per share.—AFP
