ISLAMABAD: The capital police issued 23,363 tickets to motorcyclists found driving without helmets in the current year.

A spokesman said the police were endeavouring to maintain an exemplary traffic system in the city and check those involved in negligence on roads.

“Personnel have been directed to ensure implementation of traffic rules and regulations irrespective of status and rank and demonstrate patience and politeness while issuing tickets to road users,” he said.

The capital police are utilising all available resources to facilitate the general public. He appealed to the parents not to allow their children to drive bikes or cars till the age of maturity.

“The personnel of the force issue tickets not as a punitive measure but to ensure safe road environment in the capital and secure the lives of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Aabpara police raided a distillery in G-7 and recovered a huge quantity of liquor.

A police public relations officer said the police had intensified its crackdown on criminal elements in the city.

The station house officer Aabpara conducted a raid at the distillery and recovered 160 litres of alcohol. The police team also nabbed two alleged liquor dealers during the raid.

“Cases have been registered against those running the distillery and further investigation is underway,” he said.

“On the instructions of CPO/DIG operations Syed Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari, a special campaign is already in progress to make Islamabad a drug-free city and strict action is being ensured against those involved in drug pushing activities or using drugs. We are committed to eliminate the drug menace from the city and no one would be allowed to ruin the future of our young generation,” he added.
