BANNU, Jan 16: The vice-chancellor of the Bannu University of Engineering and Technology, Dr Asmatullah Khan, has said that education can make a country prosperous and developed.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a computer laboratory and library held at the university on Monday, he said it was time to go for modern education and advanced technology.
He said that the establishment of modern educational institution like the Bannu engineering university was a dream of the people of the area. The institution would not only cater to the educational needs of the people, it would also usher in an era of progress and prosperity in a backward district like Bannu.
Dr Khan urged students to concentrate on their studies and equip themselves with knowledge to face the challenges of the modern day.
The vice-chancellor said that he would not allow students to indulge in politics or other undesirable activities in the university.
He said deserving students would be granted scholarships.
He said that Rs5 billion were required to run the university, but the provincial government was giving only Rs20 million and the federal government had allocated no resources for the varsity.
Other speakers on the occasion urged philanthropists to extend cooperation to the varsity administration to run its affairs in a transparent manner.
