Arrest of killers demanded

PESHAWAR, Jan 14: A resident of Charsadda on Saturday appealed to President General Pervez Musharraf, the NWFP chief minister and the inspector-general of police to arrest the killers of his brother. Bakhtiar Shah told a press conference that the sub-divisional police officer of Charsadda, Naushad Khan, who was conducting inquiry into the case, was not performing his duties honestly.

He said that on Aug 7, 2005 accused Taj Ali and his brother Noor Ali Shah shot dead Shakeel Shah on a monetary dispute at a wedding ceremony in Trakha village.

Bakhtiar Shah, flanked by Shakeel’s widow and her 14-month-old son, said that the SDPO had neither arrested the accused nor presented the inquiry report before the court.

He said that the same accused had also attacked his brother in Peshawar on Nov 27, 2004 and added that an FIR had also been lodged against them with the Faqirabad police.

Bakhtiar Shah said that Shakeel’s death had saddened their father so much that he had lost mental balance. He said police had been threatening their father to compromise with killers otherwise his other sons would also meet the same fate.

Bakhtiar Shah called upon the government to transfer the inquiry to some honest police officer.
