Crackdown on motorcyclists after holidays

LAHORE, Jan 10: A crackdown on motorcyclists will be launched soon after Eid. This was stated by SSP (operations) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan while presiding over a meeting of SPs and SDPOs here on Monday. He said motorcycle was being used in 90 per cent street crime. Action would be taken against motorcycles without number plates or broken number plates and without documents, he said and added rent-a-car and motorcycle dealers whose vehicles used for crime would also be taken to task.

Taking notice of cell phone snatching incidents, SSP Khan directed the SPs to make it mandatory for cell phone dealers to have a photocopy of ID card of buyers.

He said the shopkeepers involved in the sale and purchase of stolen cell phones would not be spared.

To control car snatching incidents, he directed the SPs to introduce token system in markets and trade centres. SHO of police station would be responsible for any criminal activity in his area of jurisdiction.

The meeting was informed that some 350 close circuit cameras had been installed in different areas.
