LAHORE, Jan 10: There was a marked increase in the prices of fruits, vegetables and chicken ahead of Eidul Azha on Tuesday. Prices of vegetables required for cooking meat were increased in particular. Onion price was increased from Rs11 to Rs15 per kg, tomato from Rs30 to Rs40 per kg and garlic from Rs70 to Rs80 per kg.
Potato prices were raised from Rs15 to Rs20 per kg, pumpkin from Rs30 to Rs40 per kg, cauliflower from Rs20 to Rs30 per kg and green chilies from Rs33 to Rs50 per kg.
The price of ordinary apples was raised from Rs30 to Rs40 per kg and quality ones from Rs70 to Rs80 per kg. Kinno and orange prices were raised from Rs35 to Rs40 per dozen. Banana price was increased from Rs28 to Rs36 per dozen.
The price of chicken was also raised from Rs70 to Rs80 per kg because retailers anticipated increase in demand on account of inability of a large number of people to purchase sacrificial animals due to high prices being demanded by the traders.
