GILGIT: Only a small amount of money has been recovered in a case regarding Rs120 million embezzlement by the employees of a bank, Gilgit-Baltistan’s administration and the police noted in a meeting on Friday but vowed to accept no pressure from any quarter in investigating the case.
In October, six employees of the Karakoram Cooperative Bank Ltd’s Astore branch, including its manager, were arrested on the charge of stealing Rs120m. However, they were released on bail later.
A briefing on the case was held at the chief secretary’s office on Friday. The meeting was attended by GB Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, GB Inspector General of Police Saeed Wazir, the DIG and investigation officers of the crime branch. The details of the investigation and the progress of the case were discussed in the meeting.
According to a press release, it was apprised at the briefing that due to technical and procedural matters pertaining to courts, criminals involved in the scandal were not being prosecuted.
