PESHAWAR, Jan 9: The Jamaat-i-Islami has condemned army operation and intrusion of US helicopters in the North Waziristan Agency and urged the government to resolve issues through negotiations.
A press release issued here on Monday said that the US forces conducted operation inside the tribal area and killed eight people, including women and children. The government, it said, failed to halt territorial violation and aggression of the US forces, which created a sense of insecurity among the tribesmen.
The military operation, incursion of US troops and shelling on civilian population had undermined national security and the government should take appropriate measures to restore the local people’s confidence.
The press release said that hundreds of people had been killed in the ongoing military operation in the tribal area in the past two years and the situation had further aggravated.
The JI called upon the government to stop military operation in the tribal areas, secure borders with Afghanistan and restore fundamental rights of the tribesmen.—Bureau
