SAHIWAL, Jan 9: Police on Monday arrested three alleged kidnappers who killed a man for non-payment of Rs1.5 million ransom. Police said Nadim of Chichawatni with his oil tanker (SLF-9578) was kidnapped by four car riders. They asked the father of the kidnapped man to pay them Rs1.5 million ransom. They gave him a deadline to pay ransom at Saloni Jhal, Faisalabad.

Abdullah, the father of the kidnapped man, meanwhile informed the police which irritated the kidnapped men.

In the meantime, police arrested an accused, Ashfaq, who told them that they had killed Nadeem and buried his body.

On the information provided by him, police arrested Iftikhar and Mukhtar Ahmad and recovered the body. Their fourth accomplice is still at large.

RELEASED: Nineteen prisoners were released from the central jail here on Monday as result of grant of two months’ remission in their terms by the Punjab chief minister.

With the release of 19 prisoners, the number of prisoners who enjoyed remission rose to 74 — 55 prisoners had already been released.

MEDICAL REPORT: The chief minister has constituted a six-member medical board to re-examine the report of police torture on a prisoner presented by a board headed by DHQ medical superintendent.

The board was constituted on the application of Fateh Sher police station SHO who submitted that the board report was not based on facts. The board will file its report within 15 days.

It may be recalled that police arrested Akbar in connection with a theft case in July. They subjected him to violence as a result of which his kidneys were damaged. A medical board examined Akbar on the orders of a judicial magistrate and confirmed that his kidneys have been affected due to police torture.
