ISLAMABAD, Jan 8: Senior Vice-President of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Mir Baz Mohammad Khan Khetran has called for an immediate end to the ongoing military operation in Balochistan saying that the situation can go out of control any time. Talking to Dawn here, the PPP leader said that all political parties should frame a strategy to force the government to stop the military operation. He said there was complete lawlessness and anarchy in various parts of Balochistan and the provincial government had completely failed to improve the situation.

He alleged that the ruling elite of Balochistan lacked capability to maintain peace in the province and called for immediate removal of the government.

The PPP leader said that an interim government should be formed in the province with the consultation of all national political parties to resolve the issue.

Mr Khetran said innocent people were being killed in the operation. He said the people of Balochistan did not support any Sardar or feudal lord and were only struggling for their rights. He said the killing of both the Baloch people as well as the paramilitary troops was condemnable and regrettable.

The PPP leader said the military operation was creating hatred among the people of Balochistan for Punjab and other provinces. He said the operation should be stopped otherwise the nation will have to wait for another “Hamoodur Rehman Commission report.”

Mr Khetran said that time had come that the exiled leadership of the country should be invited to resolve the complex issues of Balochistan and Kalabagh dam. Besides this, he said, Baloch students, teachers and intellectuals should also be taken into confidence before taking any decision on Balochistan.
