RAWALPINDI: On the directives of Punjab caretaker Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Dr Jamal Nasir, the food department imposed a Rs50,000 fine on a flour mill for selling flour bags with less weight at the Shamsabad Park sale point.
The minister visited sale points established at Committee Chowk and Shamsabad and checked the commodity and its sale.
He checked the weight of the 10kg bag and found it to be less than the prescribed quantity. The minister directed the commissioner and food department deputy director to fine the seller.
He asked the food department to check the quality of wheat flour and sent him a report within a day or two so he will inform the caretaker chief minister about the facility being provided to the people. The provincial minister also asked citizens about the quality of flour and expressed satisfaction.
He said the supply of subsidised flour to the citizens will not be reduced and strict action will be taken against those found selling low quality flour.

He said Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi was personally monitoring the supply of flour, so there should be no complaints about its shortage or availability. He said there was no shortage of flour across the division and flour was available in abundance at all sale points.
He directed the concerned staff of the food department to ensure the quality of flour supplied at these sale points and to continue strict monitoring of all the processes from the mills to the sale points.
The minister also visited Allama Iqbal Park and Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and Red Crescent Hospital along with Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatha.
The minister also visited the children’s ward of the BBH and expressed satisfaction over the arrangements. He reviewed the sanitary arrangements in the bathrooms of the children’s ward and directed the officials to make improvements there in a week.
The minister assured Red Crescent Hospital of all possible support for providing best medical facilities to patients.
He expressed concerns over poor sanitation arrangements in the public toilets established at Allama Iqbal Park and directed the officials to improve the arrangements and construct one more toilet within a week.
The minister also directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority to improve the condition of parks in the city and pay attention on the greenbelts. He said that the caretaker government was committed to providing pollution-free environment in the city, adding plantation of trees and flowers was necessary.
