KHAIRPUR, Jan 8: A large number of people, including activists of the Awami Tehrik, took out a procession against the Kalabagh dam here on Sunday. Awami Tehrik leaders Irfan Buledi, Imtiaz Lakho and social worker Rehman Bux Galal led the procession.
The procession started from Saida Goth and marched up to the press club. The protesters carried banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the dam.
They said the project should be shelved because it had been rejected by the people of Sindh.
MIRPURKHAS: A protest procession was taken out by the Socio-Institutes and Natural Resources Development Net-work and Sindh NGOs Fede-ration on Sunday in protest against Kalabagh dam.
They demanded that government should abandon the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Zahoor Laghari said the dam project would render Sindh dry and drought conditions would prevail in the province.
Ali Hassan Chandio, Wajid Leghari, Aisha Sardar, Kanji Ranomal, Nasreen Bano, Safdar Talpur, Dost Mohammad Kolachi, Sher Mohammad Solangi, Qaiser Mari and Ali Gohar spoke on the occasion.
SHIKARPUR: Activists of the Sindh People’s Youth organization observed a token hunger strike at Lakhi Gate tower chowk in protest against Kalabagh dam and operation in Balochistan.
Sharif Mirani, Sami Qazi, Shafique Mangi, Zafar Veesar, Deedar Mahar, Mohsin Sethar, Akbar Soomro, Mashkoor Mahar and Qasim Dayo participated in the hunger strike.
DADU: Activists of the Sindh National Front marched in the town on Sunday to protest against the construction of Kalabagh dam.
They were led by SNF district president Mohammad Khan Panhwar.
The protesters staged a demonstration at the new chowk for two hours.
They demanded that Gen Musharraf should honour resolutions of provincial assemblies about Kalabagh dam.
