Usman Wazir defends WBC World Youth title

ISLAMABAD: Usman Wazir extended his winning streak as he retained the WBC World Youth title after knocking out Thai opponent Krung Kling in Dubai on Sunday.

Usman is undefeated in his last 10 international bouts and kept the run going as he floored Kling in the seventh round of the 10-round title fight.

The 22-year-old Usman became the first Pakistani boxer to clinch the title in September last year after beating Somphot Seesa also from Thailand.

Usman, who hails from Astore in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region, dedicated the win to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police and the martyrs of Peshawar mosque blast.

“We feel proud of our security forces and police who made unmatched sacrifices for the country in the war against terrorism,” Wazeer said after winning the fight.

Meanwhile, Pakistani boxer Muhammad Saqib also registered his international victory. Saqib knocked out Iranian competitor in the third-round of the fight.
