ISLAMABAD: The government and opposition members remained up in arms in the Senate on Friday as the two sides traded accusations of political victimisation.

The opposition also staged a walkout twice to protest against what they called the victimisation of opposition leaders and the absence of ministers during the question hour.

A ruckus was also witnessed by the house over ‘objectionable’ remarks by Opposition Leader Dr Shahzad Waseem.

The PTI senator said Fawad Chaudhry’s daughters went to meet their father in prison instead of going to school. He wondered how could such behaviour be defended and said that those who condoned it should be ashamed of themselves.

This led to a ruckus as treasury members strongly protested against Mr Wasim’s comments who later had to withdraw them.

“I feel sorry for the daughters of politicians who face such behaviours for no fault of theirs,” the PTI leader said.

He added that the Peshawar blast left Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a bloodbath but the government tried to play politics on the attack instead of expressing solidarity.

From the treasury benches, PPP’s Senator Maula Bakhsh Chandio condemned Mr Wasim’s remarks.

He said the PTI and its chairman Imran Khan have

in the past made derogatory comments about PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz as well.
