Caretaker cabinet members assigned portfolios

LAHORE: Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday assigned portfolios to his eight-member cabinet.

According to a notification, S M Tanvir is given portfolio of energy, industries, investment and skills development, Dr Javed Akram gets specialised healthcare and medical education, Mansoor Qadir higher education and schools education, Ibrahim Murad local government and community development, Bilal Afzal communication and works (C&W), excise and taxation, Amir Mir information and culture, Dr Jamal Nasir primary and secondary healthcare and Azfar Ali Nasir gets Auqaf, religious affairs, Zakat and Ushar portfolio.

The ministers also called on Mr Naqvi, who asked them to consume their energies to serve the people.

“The people should see relief from every department and in a short period and the ministers should do such work that is remembered by them [the people] ,” he said.

Dr Javed Akram is a known general physician and former vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences, Lahore. He is a brother of deceased PML-N leader late Pervez Malik and retired justice Malik Qayyum.

Amir Mir is a journalist by profession and a brother of TV anchor Hamid Mir. The FIA during the tenure of Imran Khan as prime minister had arrested Amir Mir allegedly for his “disrespectful attitude” towards the Pakistan Army, the judiciary and women.

Bilal Afzal is director of a group of colleges, Ibrahim Murad is president of the University of Management Technology (UMT), Lahore. S M Tanvir and Syed Azfar Ali Nasir are businessmen and Mansoor Qadir is a former bureaucrat.

CM VISITS MAYO: Mr Naqvi visited the Mayo Hospital to inquire after a minor girl, working as domestic help, who was subjected to ‘severe torture’ allegedly by her employers.

The girl kept crying while narrating her ordeal in the presence of Mr Naqvi.

The chief minister promised that those who were involved in this heinous crime would be brought to justice. He also directed the doctors to provide the best available treatment facilities to Maryam.
