MR M.A. KHUHRO, the Premier of Sind, returned to Karachi from Lahore where he discussed refugee problems with the Governor of the West Punjab and with the Minister for Refugees and Rehabilitation in the Pakistan Government, Mr Ghazanfar Ali Khan.

In an exclusive interview to the API on Jan 23 Mr Khuhro said: “…So far as my people and province are concerned, we have already expressed our readiness to provide homes and occupations for as many of our uprooted Muslim brethren as we possibly can, considering our resources and absorptive capacity.

“I have reiterated on a number of previous occasions that we can only settle refugees coming to Sind on lands which have been abandoned by non-Muslim emigrants from our province. There is no scope for planting them on lands which are already being cultivated by indigenous Muslims Haris. …[W]e shall not be able to take more than one hundred thousand people, at the most. We cannot possibly absorb more … on lands abandoned by Sikhs and some Hindus. — News agencies
