GUJRANWALA, Jan 6: Armed bandits looted Rs1.8 million in cash from a currency exchange in GDA Plaza here on Friday. Reports said that outlaws entered Shaheen Mini Currency Exchange office, held cashier Abu Bakar Dar and other staff at pistol point and locked them in a room. Later, they collected Rs1.8 million in cash and escaped from the scene. The currency exchange office is located at the upper floor where dozens of people move about, but no body dared to chase the outlaws.
However, on receiving information, senior police officers, including the City SP reached the spot.
Gepco’s Eid: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has set up emergency centres at all sub-divisions across the region for the smooth flow of power supply during Eidul Azha.
While the main centre has been established at the company’s headquarters on GT Road with emergency telephone Nos 118, 9200504 and 9200516 for the purpose.
This was stated by a Gepco spokesman in a press release issued here on Friday.
He said that consumers had been asked not to throw offals of sacrificial animals near electricity polls to avoid tripping while children should also not be allowed to fly kites during Eid holidays.
RESULTS: The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Gujranwala, announced the results of Aloom Sharqia supplementary examinations 2005 here on Friday.
According to controller examination Prof Dr Mumtaz Ahmad Awan, the result cards have been dispatched to addresses of candidates.
He directed them to approach the board office in case they did not receive their result cards till Jan 10.
SHOT DEAD: A landlord was shot dead by his rivals over children’s quarrel on Friday in Aminpur Tipha village, Cantonment.
Reports said that deceased Asif, the father of three children, was working in his fields when accused Imtiaz came there and opened fire on him after a squabble. He died on the spot.
Police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating.
