PESHAWAR: Khan Abdul Wali Khan, President of the NAP, said today [Jan 7] that any constitution framed by the People’s Party unilaterally could not represent the aspirations of the people of all the four provinces of Pakistan.

Addressing a public meeting at Mardan … Mr Wali Khan said that the people of Punjab and Sind had voted for the People’s Party, and as such the constitution framed by the PPP unilaterally would be only for the two provinces. The people of Baluchistan and the Frontier had not voted for the People’s Party, he said.

Mr Wali Khan reiterated his call to the democratic forces in the country to forge unity and … safeguard the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan. The country was passing through a crisis of life and death. It was, therefore, imperative that all petty party differences were sunk and a united struggle was waged to bring about democracy, rule of law and constitutional supremacy in the country, he said.

The NAP chief said the political forces, which had divided the country in the past, were again at work to destroy what had been left of Pakistan.

Mr Wali Khan claimed that [the recent] incident in the National Assembly was the result of the unanimous demand of the Opposition for open trial of former President Yahya Khan. — News Agencies
