NEW YEAR RESOLUTION

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION: In almost all government offices, especially in Sindh, one comes across banners, signs and boards exhorting one and all to ‘Say No To Corruption’. I have seen it written in bold letters even below the portraits of the Quaid-i-Azam. And, I have also seen haggling and bargaining over bribes taking place in the same room. With the Quaid’s portrait watching, the irony of it all only gets intense. It also becomes that much more painful. The Sindh government would do well to resolve that in the year 2023, it will remove the ‘Say No To Corruption’ signs from all its offices. We can at least be realistic, if nothing else.

A DARK DAY: This is with reference to the editorial ‘A dark day’ (Dec 16), marking the anniversary of the Army Public School tragedy. After a passage of eight years, no one has been brought to justice, which is a pity. There are a number of questions that need to be answered regarding the carnage, but nobody is willing to come forward in this regard.

WRETCHED VILLAGE: Kasar Danuk in Kech, Balochistan, is without potable water for a long time. More than 20,000 local residents have to travel 5-7kms on foot or on donkeys to fetch water for their daily use. Broken roads, dilapidated primary school building, and poor healthcare add to people’s woes.

The provincial legislator concerned belongs to this very village, but he is never ‘available’ to the people who do not know what they need to do to get some attention.

VIOLENCE IN KASHMORE: There is a video doing the rounds on social media for some time, showing an innocent child being tortured by bandits in Kashmore. The boy can be seen crying as he is

being slapped and hit with a rifle’s butt. The law enforcement agencies should take notice of such incidents and protect the lives of innocent citizens of Kashmore.
