10 police officials sacked over links with criminals

KOHAT: The district police officer on Tuesday terminated 10 police officials for having links with criminals and involvement in drug smuggling.

The terminated policemen had been taken into custody sometime back.

DPO Abdur Rauf Qaisrani said the charges against the officials had been thoroughly investigated and their involvement in crimes proved beyond any doubt, according to a statement.

The terminated cops included constables and head constables.

He said the step had been taken after completing all legal and departmental formalities and concrete proofs gathered against them of connections with criminal elements.

GANG BUSTED: The police busted a five-member gang involved in digging old graves in search of a treasure trove here the other day.

SHO Riaz Mohammad Shaheed police station Islamuddin along with a team raided an old graveyard in the Khattak Colony, and apprehended some people digging graves there.

Meanwhile, the police arrested 18 proclaimed offenders, 10 facilitators, 26 drug peddlers and 16 others for firing in air during operations conducted in various areas.

A statement issued the other day said the police also recovered six Kalashnikovs, two kalakovs, three repeaters, 36 pistols, five shotguns, 50kg hashish, one kg ice drug and 250 grams of heroin from them.

CHILLY WEATHER: Weather has turned chilly in Kohat due to the blowing of famous Teerah breeze from adjoining snow-clad Orakzai mountains, forcing most people to stay indoors and put on woollies.

An elder, Inayat Orakzai, said cold conditions would prevail as long as the snow covered Orakzai.
