DERA GHAZI KHAN, Jan 30: The family of former President of Pakistan and Millat Party chief Farooq Khan Laghari owes an amount of Rs1.05 million to the revenue department.
Details gathered by this correspondent on Tuesday revealed the family had not paid water rate and agriculture tax since 1998. Mr Laghari, his sons, Dera Ghazi Khan district Nazim Jamal Khan Laghari, Awais Khan Laghari, and daughters have yet to pay the water rate and agriculture tax of their lands in mauza Dodara, Chehl Chahan, Derkhawst Jamal Darmiani, Chak Masu, Basti Jam, Chak Slari and Bhakir Wah Eastern.
Being a lumbardar of at least 40 mauzas in the district, Mr Laghari was responsible for collection of revenue like agriculture tax and water rate. However, the man responsible for collecting revenue is himself a defaulter.
The revenue department failed to collect the amount of Rs400 million through various lumbardars in the previous years. The lumbardari is no more an active agent in the Trans-Indus belt of Sardari system. The Khosa and Laghari sardars are lumbardars of the area. They can appoint representatives for the collection of revenue but unfortunately they too fail to do justice to their jobs.
