TIKTOKERS’ UNIVERSITY: Common sense, as the saying goes, is not quite common. Anything that is done beyond a certain limit becomes an addiction, and that is the case with the use of social media platforms, especially, though not exclusively, TikTok. The excessive use is common even at the university level. A private university based in Lahore is commonly known as the ‘university of TikTokers’ since its students have been using it way more than they can ever focus on education.

PAPER WASTAGE: The waste of paper makes up for more than one-third of the overall waste in the country. An average office employee uses about 10,000 sheets of paper every year in an office-based setup. The people in Pakistan need to minimise their paper usage and realise the importance of reducing paper wastage. We must understand that the biodegradable nature of paper is not the determining factor of sustainability; the efficiency of paper usage and the volume of waste produced are.

OVERWORKED CHILDREN: Students of primary and secondary classes are often overburdened with home assignments. School managements and teachers put tremendous pressure on the students and give them a lot of homework. Resultantly, children keep working at home and cannot take part in any physical activity. The syllabus should introduce new concepts. Instead of turning children into lazy chaps with sleepy minds, the system must ensure that they get some free time to enjoy healthy physical activities and be active and creative in their lives.

HIGHWAY REFLECTORS: The Indus Highway has been dug up and broken at different places, but the National Highway Authority (NHA) has not installed a diversion reflector board to alert the drivers at such places. An unfortunate accident recently occurred near Sehwan in which more than 20 passengers lost their lives. The NHA must compensate the families of the victims.
