PESHAWAR, Jan 30: The Afghan interim government has appointed Abdul Khaliq Farahi as new consul general in Peshawar.

Sources informed here on Wednesday that the consul general designate had arrived in Peshawar some two days back and would assume its office.

The sources, quoting senior officials of the interim government in Kabul, said that the Afghan embassy in Islamabad would resume its activities within a week.

Islamabad, which cut off diplomatic relations with  the Afghanistan following the fall of the Taliban government, reopened its embassy in Kabul early this month and appointed Zaiad Khan its Charge d’Affairs.
