Degrees awarded to over 1,370 students at IoBM convocation

KARACHI: Girls outshined boys at the 25th Silver Jubilee convocation of the Institute of Business Management (IoBM) as they grabbed 14 out of 18 gold medals in their respective disciplines on Saturday.

Over 1,374 students were conferred degrees at the event held on the IoBM’s Korangi campus.

The gold medal recipients are: Syed Osama Ali Shah, Maryam Farooq, Neusha F. Mondegarian, Maria Babar, Bushra, Aiesha Anees, Ruqaiya Asif, Qasim Ali, Yusra Rahat, Syeda Rahela Qadri, Syed Areeb Abbas, Ali Gohar, Maheen Hanif, Ateeb Hasan, Saman Zulfiqar, Sana Saleem, Faiza and Sana Imran.

Speaking as the chief guest, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori appreciated IoBM, describing it as one of the country’s key educational institutions.

“In the form of IoBM, late Shahjahan S. Karim has given the country an institution that now has become a pride for Pakistan. Today, as you graduate from this auspicious university, it is crucial to embrace and portray the positive side of Pakistan as you step into the corporate world,” he said.

The governor urged the youth not to forget the great sacrifices our leaders and forefathers rendered to provide the coming generations with a homeland.

Habib Bank Limited President Muhammad Aurangzeb explained to students that it’s important in life to become a good human.

“It is great to be successful in your chosen fields and have illustrious careers. But, it is one of life’s greatest blessings to become a good human. Be always humble, patient, and strive for the stars while practicing a confident humility,” he said.

In his welcome address, IoBM President Talib S. Karim congratulated graduates on their success while urging them to continue with their hard work in future life.

He shared the vision and aspiration of late founding president of the institute Shahjehan S. Karim and extended deep gratitude to members of the board of governors for their continuous support, while acknowledging executive director Sabina Mohsin’s hard work over the past two decades.

“Be respectful towards the elderly, especially your parents, and follow in the footsteps of IoBM alumni who have done remarkably well in the corporate sector,” he said.

Expressing similar sentiments in his keynote speech, Abid Vazir of the Cherat Packaging Limited urged students to utilise their knowledge, training, skills and potential to face future challenges.

IoBM Chancellor Bashir Jan Muhammad also spoke.
