Indian troops kill Harkat leader

SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Indian troops on Sunday shot dead a most-wanted militant during a gunbattle in occupied Kashmir, police here said. Ghulam Qadir Mughal, a resident of Azad Kashmir, was killed when troops raided a rebel hideout early on Sunday. In a statement, police said Mughal was a self-styled deputy chief of the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen group.

“Mughal was active in Kashmir for the past many years and figured in our most-wanted list,” the statement said.—AFP
