9kg heroin seized in hujra raid

PESHAWAR: The Narcotics Control Wing (NCW) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise Department recovered nine kilogrammes of heroin from a factory during a raid in Sarband area on the outskirts of the provincial capital on Friday.

Officials said NCW had received information about a hujra being used for manufacturing the drug, adding that as part of the intelligence-based operations (IBO) being carried out across the province, a team raided the hujra in Sarband area and recovered the drug.

“We are carrying out intelligence-based raids with focus on ‘origin of the drugs’ [referring to places where heroin is manufactured], and this raid was part of the IBOs where we not only recovered the drug but also arrested one person from the spot,” NCW director Eid Badshah told Dawn.

He said following the information, a team of the Special Squad-III was tasked to carry out the raid, adding a similar raid was carried out on Kohat Road on Thursday, where over five kilogrammes of freshly manufactured heroin was recovered and three persons were arrested.
