Youth’s role in country’s progress highlighted

HARIPUR: Provincial minister for higher education and pro-chancellor, Mohammad Kamran Bangash, has said that the youth have to play an active role for putting the country on the path of progress and development as the nation has pinned high hopes on them.

He was addressing the participants of the second convocation of the University of Haripur (UoH), which was attended by the faculty members and students and their families.

Urging the graduates to explore solution to the social and economic challenges, the minister said it was incumbent on them to also inculcate the spirit of serving humanity in the people.

“Now, it is your turn to extend help to those communities that are deprived of education, health and basic amenities,” he said.

Mr Bangash said the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had invested in the welfare of youth and it was committed to providing them opportunities to progress because the country’s development was possible only through education of youth.

He claimed that KP was ahead of the rest of the country in the field of education while tourism and natural beauty were adding to its prosperity. He hoped that financial crisis of the province would be over soon.

He said that development projects worth Rs1.5 billion were under way in UoH and 90 per cent work had been completed on them.

He said their government directed its resources towards thus far less-developed areas and had approved development projects in Hazara.

“Our government believes in uniform development and the focus is on the deprived areas,” he claimed.

Earlier, the minister awarded degrees to 510 male and female students who had completed their Bachelor, Master’s, MPhil and PhD education while 239 students received medals for passing the exams with distinction.

UoH vice-chancellor Prof Shafiqur Rehman said on the occasion that the varsity was also working on the establishment of a medical college and a women’s campus in the district.
