PESHAWAR: The contractual employees of the provincial transport department here expressed concern over the delay in regularisation of their jobs and have set a one-week deadline for acceptance of their demands, including promotion to next grades.
Shouting slogans in support of their demands outside the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, the protesters said that the relevant officials were reluctant to implement the Regularisation of Service Act, 2022, which had created unrest among the employees.
“We are protesting against non-implementation of the relevant law,” they said and added that the provincial assembly had already given approval for their regularisation, but the transport department officials were using delaying tactics in this regard.
Many employees, they said, had been waiting for promotion to the next grades. They said the failure of the transport department to implement the provincial assembly’s resolution in this regard had made it clear that the department was more powerful than the government.
The employees warned that in case their demands were not accepted within a week they would stop their duties for an indefinite period. They demanded Chief Minister Mahmood Khan to take notice of the situation and play his role for resolution of their problems.
