CTD sets up cell to ‘counter extremism’

KARACHI: The counterterrorism department has established a cell to counter extremism in compliance of a decision of the Apex Committee on National Action Plan, it emerged on Thursday.

“In compliance of a decision taken in the meeting of Apex Committee on NAP held on March 7, 2022 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister of Pakistan, a new cell called ‘Anti-Extremism Enforcement Cell’ is created under the supervision of SSP Operations, CTD Karachi, with immediate effect,” said an order issued by Additional IGP CTD Imran Yaqoob Minhas on Friday.

The cell will function at the defunct Operations-II, CTD office, in Garden Headquarters, Karachi.

Meanwhile, the CTD head has also merged the set-ups of Operations-I and Operations-II of the CTD Karachi and renamed it as ‘Operations CTD Karachi’ including all the logistics staff, etc with immediate effect.
