SWAT: The higher education department secretary Dawood Khan on Saturday said it was high time the youth got skill-based education for their own and the country’s progress.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of a two-day workshop on the review and validation of the revised diploma in information technology curriculum organised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Board of Technical and Commerce Education at the SPS College, Swat.

Technical education board chairman Riaz Mohammad, its secretary Israr Ahmad, special secretary industry department Ali Qadir, director general commerce Ghazanfar Ali, Vice-Chancellor University of Swat Hassan Sher Khan, director SPS College Syed Munawar Shah and others were present.

Teachers and IT staff of universities and colleges attended the workshop.

Mr Dawood said a country progressed only when it had sufficient number of skilled and technically qualified youth. “The world has become a global village, and only skilled workers have the opportunity to work and earn modestly across the globe. That is the reason the KP government gives importance to technical education,” he said, adding those not wanting to adapt to technology would not survive.

He said IT education was mainly a practical discipline, so teachers and trainers must focus on practical aspects rather than the theoretical ones.
