ISLAMABAD, Dec 24: People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) leader and a candidate for the National Assembly seat from Jacobabad Imran Bijarani has demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should hold fresh by-polls in his constituency under the supervision of army and judiciary.
Talking to Dawn here on Friday, Mr Bijarani welcomed the decision of the acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar, to cancel the results of the December 10 by-election for the NA-210 Jacobabad-III seat.
It may be mentioned that the ECP on Wednesday declared the results of the Jacobabad by-poll null and void following the reports of grave irregularities and violation of the provisions of the Representation of People’s Act 1976.
Mr Bijarani termed the CEC’s decision “bold” and asked him to stop the interference of the police and civil administration officials in fresh polling.
Replying to a question as to why he was demanding election under the supervision of army when his party was against its interference in politics, Mr Bijarani said only army could ensure peace in his constituency which was a tribal area.
