LAHORE: Ravi Urban Development Authority CEO Imran Amin says building embankments and barrages to restore the Ravi river is the top priority and the Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) also will soon be finished.

A statement issued by the Ruda headquarters said no housing scheme was permitted to be built inside or outside the river and all existing schemes were unlawful.

The CEO said, “We have repeatedly provided notices to illegal schemes, and we will soon begin the operation.” He said the Sapphire Bay project was moving along quickly. After the completion of the three-kilometre River Training Works, we would design the construction here, while if necessary, the riverside housing scheme would be built in accordance with the master plan, he added.

Earlier, the Ruda spokesman dismissed the reports about obstruction in the projects regarding the Supreme Court as baseless and said the reservations on the amendments to the Ravi Act are unjustified.

MOU: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and the Innovative Techno Plus (Germany) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for waste recycling.

LWMC CEO Munir Hussain Chopra and ITP CEO Carsten Wenske signed the draft MoU at a ceremony at the LWMC head office. ITP local partner Syed Tanveer Hussain Shah, Director Muhammad Asif, Abdul Jabbar Chishti and other officers also participated in the event.

Mr Chopra said the first-of-its-kind modern technology power generation plant would be set up in Lahore in collaboration with the ITP and the establishment of the power plant would be implemented soon. He said the ITP would work on the project to generate energy with the help of municipal waste of Lahore, for which the LWMC would provide 2,000 tons of waste to the ITP on a daily basis.

He further said 100pc eco-friendly and affordable electricity would be provided through the Waste to Energy Power Plant and this project would also help in the elimination of air pollution from the city.
