SIX Hindu leaders of Sind have subscribed to a statement condemning the allegation contained in a declaration signed by Dr Choithram Gidwani, President of the Sind Provincial Congress Committee, and ten other Congress leaders of minorities in Western Pakistan, that there had been carnage “even to some extent in Sind”.

… The text of their statement is as follows: … We strongly protest against the particular portion which suggests that there has been a carnage “even to some extent in Sind”. There is no truth whatsoever in the said statement. We wonder how the ten non-Sindhi Congress signatories who have never set their foot upon the soil of Sind have thought it fit to endorse this statement, which being untrue and unfair is bound to do harm both in India and Pakistan.

We do not deny that there have been happenings in Sind which have created a situation in Sind for Hindus which is undesirable in many aspects. There have been stray murders of a diabolical nature, such as those in running trains and in Nawabshah and Karachi; there have been … forcible occupation of houses by outsiders… . In spite of all that has occurred, we must say that comparatively Sind is very much better off… .
