KARACHI, Dec 22: The city government is going to construct 28 overhead bridges in various parts of the city with the financial support of different domestic enterprises in order to facilitate the public movement across the roads and minimize the risk of road accidents.
According to the EDO Transport & Communication Department, Mohammad Athar, the overhead pedestrian bridges would be constructed on Sharae Faisal, Shahrah-i-Pakistan, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shershah Suri Road, and Aladin Park.
Construction of five headway pedestrian bridges on Sharae Faisal was already underway at FTC, Lal Kothi, Fine House, Duty Free Shop, and Shah Faisal Colony Gate, he said.
The transport and communication department of the city government is also going to construct three inter-city bus termini in order to regulate the traffic flow amongst various cities.
In the first phase, the Balochistan and Makraan bound inter-city bus terminus was being constructed on four-acre land and around 80 per cent of work on the respective project had been completed, the EDO said.
In the second phase, he said that the NWFP, Balochistan and Punjab bound bus terminus would be established on 15 acres.
Similarly, in the third phase, Hyderabad, Nawabshah and interior Sindh bound bus terminus would be constructed on 45-acre land at the Super Highway.
EDO Transport Mohammad Athar said that all the basic facilities including hotel, cafeteria, telephone booths and fuel station would be provided at the inter-city bus termini.
He said a shuttle service would be provided to the passengers. —Online
