From The Past Pages Of Dawn: 1972: Fifty Years Ago: ‘Secession’ charge denied

KARACHI: Pir Saheb Pagaro Sharif, Shah Mardan Shah II, has denied the charges levelled against him that he was working for Sind’s secession and was involved in the so-called London Plan. He said this in a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, Khairpur, in reply to a show cause notice … asking him to explain … why action should not be taken against him under Section 32 of the Defence of Pakistan Rules and Section 124-A PPC. — News Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies in Kampala, Uganda,] President Idi Amin today [Sept 20] threatened to order pre-emptive strikes against Ugandan guerilla bases in northern Tanzania to prevent a fresh invasion, which, he said, was being prepared. Radio Uganda quoted him as saying that he had received information that Tanzania’s President Nyerere was sending 10,000 troops and armours to … invade Uganda. … Gen Amin said Israelis had been sighted yesterday in the vicinity of the Uganda-Rwanda border. Guerillas captured during the past few days’ fighting confirmed that more “Tanzanian guerillas and white mercenaries” were being sent in, he added. He said the Ugandan forces “would not wait, and would stop Tanzanian forces before they came into Uganda.”
