Tevta teachers hold demo for special allowance

MUZAFFARGARH: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) teachers held a demonstration from the DC Office to Fayaz Park Chowk to demand implementation of the special allowance across the board.

The demonstration, participated by men and women teachers, followed a strike in the Tevta institutions.

The protesters raised slogans in favour of their demands. The teachers have been on strike since Aug 22 in the district just like across Punjab.

Speaking at the demonstration, Staff Union District General Secretary Engineer Muhammad Saleem, Senior Vice President Qaiser Jabbar Gujjar, Vice President Engineer Azir and chief organiser Umar Farooq said that there were two laws enforced in Tevta as some employees were getting 25pc and 15pc special allowance while others were deprived of it.

They said two laws in one institution were unacceptable and the teachers and the rest of the staff decided to extend the series of peaceful protests across the province against this discrimination.

All Tevta institutes are closed due to which the future of thousands of children is at stake.

FLOUR SHORTAGE: There is a shortage of wheat flour in Muzaffargarh and Kot Addu and shopkeepers are selling the commodity at their own rates.

The flour sale points have no flour now and the people have alleged that some bags of flour are being sold just for photo sessions while the others are sold in black.

The complaints of artificial shortage of flour are coming from various areas of the district.

In response to the complaints, Muzaffargarh Deputy Commissioner Ali Annan Qamar became active to ensure the supply of flour. He held a meeting with officials of the flour mills association to control the situation.

He directed the assistant commissioners (ACs) to take strict action against the shopkeepers and wholesale dealers involved in illegal profiteering and artificial shortage of flour and impose maximum penalties on them.

In the meeting, Deputy Director Development Anam Hafeez and district food controller were also present.
