GUJRANWALA, Dec 20: Sanitary workers of seven towns have protested against the tehsil municipal administration for not paying their salaries before Christmas. At a meeting here on Tuesday, the participants said since the division of the district into seven towns — Aroop, Nandipur, Khiali Shahpur, Qila Dedar Singh, Kamoki, Naushera Virkan and Wazirabad — the TMA had failed to disburse their salaries regularly.

The sanitary workers of the Water and Sanitation Agency said the administration had not paid them salaries for the last two months on the pretext of shortage of funds.

They said they were facing problems owing to non-payment of salaries as they had to buy new clothes and other things for the Christmas.

They threatened that they would go on strike in case they were not paid their salaries.

The city district nazim said the salaries would be paid within two days.

Bail rejected: The bail application of an alleged human smuggler was rejected while five others were handed over to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) passport cell here on Tuesday.

FIA passport cell registered a case against Shahid Gondal on the charge of human smuggling a few days ago. He got interim bail from a court.

He was arrested when the court rejected his bail application.
