GUJRANWALA, Dec 20: Three proclaimed offenders were killed while five others, including a constable, sustained injuries in a police ‘encounter’ at Chenab Bela Sodara, Wazirabad on Tuesday.
Reports said two groups, led by Baqir and Munir, had a murder enmity. Some months ago, the Baqir group had killed three people of the Munir group. Baqir was declared PO while his half a dozen accomplices had been arrested.
On Tuesday, both the groups had an armed clash, injuring Sughran Bibi, Munir, Muhammad Mudassar and Rifaqat at Nogaran Sodara village.
On receiving information, a police party, led by Wazirabad ASP Rana Abdul Jabbar, reached there. During an encounter, Baqir, Muhammad Nawaz of Jalalpura and Mukhtar alias Bila were killed while police constable Saqib Bashir sustained injuries.
Police have recovered a huge quantity of illicit arms from them and are conducting raids for the arrest of their accomplices.
ACQUITTED: The anti-terrorism court No 2 acquitted eight people of murder charge and declared four others proclaimed offender on Tuesday.
Zahid, Tausif, Akhtar, Yousaf, Shabbir, Sadiq, Zafar Iqbal and a woman, Shahnaz, were arrested by Sialkot police in a double murder case. But the prosecution failed to prove the case against them.
However, the court declared Munir, Akhtar, Arshad and Ashraf proclaimed offenders.
Power supply cut: The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) on Tuesday disconnected supply to Wasa for non-payment of dues worth Rs15 million and later restored electricity on assurance of payment.
Reports said the sanitation agency had failed to clear its November and December dues worth Rs7.6 million and Rs7.8 million, respectively despite repeated notices and reminders.
Later, Gujranwala Electric Power Company chief-executive Brig Saifullah Khalid accepted the plea of Wasa managing-director that all pending dues would be cleared by Dec 24 and restored all connections.
