PESHAWAR, Dec 19: The Pukhtunkhwa Qaumi Party (PQP) has urged the NWFP chief minister, Akram Khan Durrani, to oppose the Kalabagh dam like his counterpart in Sindh province.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, the president PQP, Mohammad Afzal Khan, while addressing the party provincial cabinet, said that Mr Durrani should get a resolution passed from the provincial assembly to denounce the proposed construction of the controversial Kalabagh dam project.

He appreciated the statements of Sindh Chief Minister Arbab Ghulam Rahim and said that he had come up to the expectations of the people.

He deplored the attitude of the federal government for raising the fatal issue of the Kalabagh dam at a time when the people in the quake-stricken areas needed assistance.

He said that the government should give incentives to the NWFP, which he claimed was the most affected province of the earthquake.

He said that the federal government should not spoil the loyalties of the NWFP for the vested interests of Punjab.
