TOBA TEK SINGH, Dec 19: Arrouti police were questioning four members of a gang involved in selling cars on instalment and whenever purchasers failed to pay an instalment they forcibly snatched cars and confiscated previously paid money.
SHO Rana Ajmad told journalists here on Monday that one of gang members Rana Akram of Vehari hired a car owned by Rana Munawar of Vehari (who had purchased the car on instalments from the accused) for Abdul Hakeem. When the car reached near Chak 25 bridge, some 40 kilometres from here on Pirmahal-Abdul Hakeem Road, Rana Akram’s accomplices Nasrullah Nasir, Abbas Raza, Imran Fayyaz and Ghulam Rasool Javed (all of Lahore) who were riding another car intercepted the vehicle and drove away with it. They also attempted to kill the driver who luckily remained unhurt.
On receiving information, a police party followed them and arrested them when they were changing number plate of the car. Police impounded both the cars.
He said the accused would be produced in the court of judicial magistrate on Tuesday to get physical remand.
