Honesty is the best philosophy

This is regarding the article, “Honesty is the best philosophy!” by Laraib Faisal, (YW, July 23).

The writer emphasised the fact that lying can never do us any good; if it does, it would be only for a short period of time. However, in the long run, we need truth and honesty. If we are not honest, we cannot succeed in life.

Besides, those who lie lose respect and reputation. Nobody trusts them, and nobody wants to be friends with them. They are the ones always left alone. Speaking the truth and being honest will always make you a trusted person and be respected everywhere. People in your surrounding will also reach out to you, for they know that they’ll get an honest opinion.

Therefore, it is rightly said that honesty is also the key to a successful life.

The crying trees

This is with reference to the article “The crying trees” by Ayesha Imran (YW, July 23). I appreciate the writer for writing a tale that highlighted the danger that trees are facing today. It felt as if the trees had come to life and were really telling their story.

The way the writer had put down the emotions of the trees was really impressive. I almost felt the trees were questioning humans about their cruel and selfish act of cutting them.

My heart cried as I read the article and I hated the harm being done to the environment and, above all, to people themselves and their coming generations. I don’t understand how can someone be so blind to facts, just for some short-term monetary benefit?

I request the readers to plant trees as much as possible, because our earth and our environment need more trees.

Glorious Muslim scientists

This is regarding the article “Glorious Muslim scientists” by Muhammad Ibrahim Shafi (YW, August 6). No doubt, it was one of the best articles I have ever read in the magazine. Most students like me are unaware that the Western world has grown into the world’s biggest powers by using the ideas of Muslims, and how Muslim states are today considered backward, whereas their past was totally the opposite.

I would like to thank Young World for publishing such an informative article. Please, publish more articles like this so that students and curious souls get to know about the milestones of our Muslim ancestors, from algebra to astronomy, from literature to philosophy, from physics, chemistry to biology. Maybe this way they may become willing to play a more active role in making Muslim countries more progressive and powerful.
