LAHORE, Jan 28: Master Paints beat Samsung Mobiles 4 1/2—4) and KFC Remounts beat Remounts Orange 5-4 1/2 on the opening day of the high-handicap Uni Gas polo tournament which began at the Lahore Polo Club Monday.

All scoring in the first match was done by the seven-goal handicap foreign players Ramiro Garros and Diego Araya, who represented opposing sides. Master Paints had advantage of half-a-goal on handicap.

Diego Araya scored back-to-back field goals in first chukker for Master Paints while Garros reduced the margin for Samsung Mobiles by converting a 40 yards penalty-hit. At end of first chukker, Master Paints led by 2 1/2—1.

After a long chase, Garros scored only field goal of second chukker to further reduce the margin 2—2 1/2. Garros also scored the only field goal of the third chukker to complete his hat-trick and put Samsung Mobiles ahead 3— 2 1/2 for first time during this match.

Araya scored first and last goals of fourth chukker. Araya scored a field goal. Garros converted a 40 yards penalty-hit for Samsung but Araya scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit to clinch victory for Master paints.

Remounts Orange despite half-a-goal on handicap could score only four goals during play as compared to five put in by KFC Remounts. Argentina’s six-goal handicapper Toto Collardin alone scored four goals that tilted scales in favour of Remounts.

Ahmad Khan opened scoring for Remounts Orange and Manzoor Shah scored on a pass from Mazzini. In between the two goals, KFC Remounts’ Shahryar Munir scored a field goal, crowning a team effort. Remounts Orange led 2 1/2—1 at conclusion of first chukker.

Collardin scored a goal for Remounts on a 60 yards penalty-hit but Sufi Muhammad Amir scored a field goal, combining well with Mazzini and maintained Remounts Orange lead 3 1/2-2.

During third chukker, Collardin scored two goals while Haseeb Minhas gifted a goal to the opposing Remounts Orange team by putting the ball into his own goal with an under the neck shot. Collardin scored on a 60 yards penalty-hit and Remounts retained the narrow lead 4 1/2—4.

Collardin scored the final goal for KFC Remounts which was the only goal of fourth chukker.

Meanwhile, Dew Drops beat Black Berets and Borjan beat Nee Punhal by an identical margin of 4 1/2—4 on the inaugural day of the Junior Cup polo tournament Monday. Both the winning teams enjoyed an half- a-goal handicap advantage.

For Dew Drops, Shahzad Aziz scored three goals, which constituted a hat-trick, while Irfan Ali Hyder put in one goal. For Black Berets, Lt.-Col. Talha Saeed struck twice while Omar Shahbaz and Amanat scored one goal, each.

Ahmad Ali scored a hat-trick for Borjan while Agha Murtaza struck once. For Nee Punhal, Usman Haye and Haseeb Mehta scored two goals, each.
