JSQM opposes dam

NAWABSHAH, Dec 17: If resolutions of the three provincial assemblies against proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam has no meaning than the Pakistan Resolution has also no meaning, said Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Khan Qureshi here on Saturday.

He said it did not make any sense to construct the dam when three elected assemblies – Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP – had already rejected it.

Mr Qureshi said rejection of the dam by three assemblies was a consensus itself that majority of the people did not want the Kalabagh.

He claimed that Sindhis were owners of the River Indus according to 1945 accord and the JSQM would never allow any dam over it. He said that Gen Musharraf was helpless in the present scenario as he had clearly stated that Punjab wanted the Kalabagh dam.
