Upgradation of DHA golf course costs Rs1.6b

KARACHI, Dec 15: A refurbished golf centre with newly realigned nine holes was inaugurated at Defence Authority Country and Golf Club by Administrator DHA, Brig Maqsood Hussain, on Thursday.

This is part of ongoing upgradation and modernisation programme of transforming the DHA Golf Club into a world class golf resort, said a DHA statement.

The 18 hole golf course is being built into 72 par course according to USGA standards. This will also provide an opportunity to organise world class golf tournaments in Pakistan.

Administrator DHA formally opened the new realigned nine holes by teeing off at hole 10.

The whole scheme of redesigning and improvement of the golf course is being undertaken by a Malaysian firm at an estimated cost of Rs1.6 billion.

The modernised golf course with world class features will be one of the finest facility of its kind in entire South East Asia.

The gigantic upgradation work underway includes construction of driving range, signature hole, replacement of grass of the green and reshaping of fairways including landscaping of the course that will make it the crown jewel of Karachi.

The gigantic works underway include construction of 20 new chalets, convention hall, a swimming plaza, a gym for males and females and host of other exciting sports and entertainment facilities.

The DHA Golf Club with all its reinvigorated features will become fully operational in December 2006, it was further pointed out.—APP
